Team Redstone Observes Women’s History Month

While great accomplishments have been made in the quest for women’s equality, there is still a need for “foot soldiers for justice,” according to Michelle Bernard, keynote speaker for the Women’s History Month observance.
“Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives” was the theme for Monday’s event in Bob Jones Auditorium, hosted by the Security Assistance Command.
Bernard is the president and CEO of the Bernard Center for Women, Politics & Public Policy, which focuses on domestic and foreign policy matters, with an emphasis on racial, social and gender justices. She is the author of several books and a frequent guest and political analyst for various news shows.
“The enormous challenge of making this world better starts from the belief that women as well as men are required to step up and lead,” Bernard said. “We are required to draw from our shared history to remember our strength and power.”
The event also included music by the Army Materiel Command Band, a stirring rendition of the national anthem from Carla McAlpine-Franklin, a performance by dancers from the Huntsville Ballet School and the presentation of awards to the Women’s History Month essay and display contest winners.
